In the Land of Sunshine: Imaging the California Coast Culture is a wonderful collection of 90 paintings that displays living, working, and playing along the coast including a painting from the mid-1800s.
The main gallery is spacious and each painting offers sentiment and an emotional tug showing how the coast has shaped lifestyles in the south and north. The collection shows the impact of industrialization and the many recreational pursuits that the coast provides.
The exhibit runs until February 19, 2017.
In the south gallery, explore nature’s impact with the Lloyd Hamrol/ Joan Perlman exhibit “a sky in the palm of a hand.”
The PMCA is easily accessible along Union Street, just east of Los Robles.
On street parking for no charge is often available and the museum also has parking in its garage.
While places the Getty Museum, the Norton Simon and the Huntington Library and Gardens offer sweeping vistas and a world-class array of fine art, the PMCA is intimate with an open feeling.
