Javelyn describes her show as tongue-in-cheek where no one is thrown under the bus, using humor that features real people on a slice-of-life realty series. It’s true form reality TV with unscripted guests airing on a national live broadcasting channel that has 24 hour live programming with genres ranging from reality and drama to comedy and documentaries.
Each of the first six shows that has been taped is like an out-of-water experience as she takes on the role of a mermaid who has come on to land and stumbles across an array of personalities.
“In each episode, the camera is like a fly on the wall as we first discover the personal side of our guests and then talk about what they do. It’s a slice of life.”
Consider how life unfolds when you visit someone who has an interesting twist to their lives and you’re not quite sure what will take place. Productions cost real money and reality crews will shy away from the unknown.
But that’s where Javelyn ventures during an eight-hour day while shooting the episodes. “Laughter and mistakes on the set are gifts,” she says.
A spontaneous moment with the curtains pulled back took place during one of Javelyn’s episodes with King Hustle, a Vegas-based Hip Hop producer who was the originator of Hustle or Nothing Enterprises and voted Best Recording Studio in Las Vegas.
Javelyn’s crew arrived at his home studio and after a brief discussion, King Hustle said he wanted to make eggs for breakfast and the taping began.
He offered Javelyn eggs, but she couldn’t eat them since she is a mermaid and they reminded her of baby fish in the sea. King Hustle’s young son began fidgeting and since each episode has music, Javelyn broke out her ukulele while King began rapping along. This triggered the son’s own creativity and he began moonwalking.
The ukulele-strumming, rapping, moonwalking trio stayed in the groove as they kept visiting and the result was a warm and down-to-earth view of a rap artist.
“We get these stories of people and that’s what makes life work,” she says. “I love pulling my [show’s] guests into places where no one else has taken them before.”
The show isn’t just about Javelyn. “That’s one thing I learned at Java With Javelyn, a live music event I promoted and performed in. I didn’t pack the house because of me, but because of me and my friends.”
